DANCERS AND COLLABORATORS
LISA RACE (Artistic Director) has spent most of her career as a performer, teacher and choreographer in New York, where her dances have been seen at venues including Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace Project, Movement Research at the Judson Church, The Kitchen’s Dance in Progress series, and the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse. Her work, under the guise of Race Dance - as well as in collaborations with Sondra Loring, Tom Thayer and Ginger Gillespie - has also been seen in various locations around the country, in Argentina, France and Hong Kong. Race danced with David Dorfman Dance from 1989-2000, and was honored with a New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) in 1995 for her dancing with the company. In May 2005 she returned to DDD for performances as a guest artist. Race has taught and choreographed at various universities and festivals around the U.S. as well as creating works on D9 (Seattle), Labco (Pittsburgh), Atrek (St. Louis) and Aaben Dans (Copenhagen). She has given workshops at festivals in Europe, South America and China. Race taught at Trinity College/Performing Arts at La Mama in New York City from 1997-2005, at Wesleyan University in 2005, and is on faculty at Connecticut College. In 2007, she received an MFA in Dance from Hollins University/American Dance Festival. Recent projects have included a duet choreographed on Adele Myers and Bronwen MacArthur for performances in New Haven, as well as touring Garden: Retreat, performed with husband David Dorfman and son Samson to Siberia. In 2008 she taught/performed at Made In France, Impulstanz, the American Dance Festival, and the Snowy Range Dance Festival, the CT Dance Exchange at the Arts & Ideas Festival in New Haven, and The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard. This year she was commissioned to make dances for Propel-Her, a dance collective based in New York, and on students at Brown University, returned to Made In France, and is currently recovering from a knee injury.
RAJA FEATHER KELLY (Company Manager/Dancer/Collaborator) , is a company member with David Dorfman Dance, Reggie Wilson/ Fist and Heel Performance Group, zoe | juniper (SEA), Squint Productions (BE), and PEARSONWIDRIG Dance Theater. Feather created the feath3r theory in 2009 to present his own performance projects. Kelly holds a BA with Honors in Dance and English from Connecticut College.
ALI HOLLOWELL (Dancer) has always been enthralled with the seemingly endless capabilities of the human body. Growing up in Maine she was always active, pursuing athletics, gymnastics, and dance. Ali received her BA in Dance and Philosophy at Connecticut College where she studied under Lisa Race, David Dorfman, Adele Myers and Heidi Henderson. She recently completed her fourth touring season with LA based Diavolo Dance Theater, with whom she has had the pleasure of performing in Germany, Austria, Hong Kong, South Korea and Italy, as well as in the US. Ali currently lives in New York City and is thrilled to be back performing with Race Dance.
KAITLIN MORESE (dancer) has had the honor of working with Race Dance since 2007. Since then she has also danced for Boston-based Kinodance Company, BE Dance Collective, Zenas Hutcheson, Lonely Goat, Dishman + Co., and Naomi Goldberg Haas/Dances for a Variable Population. When not dancing, she can be found teaching alignment-focused yoga, fitness, and wellness in her native New Jersey. Kaitlin holds a BA in Dance and Gender and Women's Studies from Connecticut College and finds much love and joy in continuing the years-long relationships she’s had with fellow Conn alumni Race Dancers, both on and off the stage.
LILY OCKWELL (Dancer), originally from Los Angeles, graduated with honors from Connecticut College with a BA in Dance and French in 2010. She’s been thrilled to work with David Dorfman, Heidi Henderson, Adele Myers, Lisa Race, Nicholas Leichter, Colleen Thomas, Monica Bill Barnes, Kyle Abraham, Gina Gibney and perform works by Laura Dean and Paul Taylor. Currently she performs in Punchdrunk’s production Sleep No More doing the roles of Sexy Witch, Lady Macduff, Dewinter, Nurse and Pagoda. She is also a company dancer with Race Dance, Justice Dance and lonely goat dance.
MICHAEL WALL (Lecturer/composer) began collaborating with dance and other art forms at an early age and continues to work with artists internationally. He has made work for the Jose Limon Company, Mark Hiam, Lisa Race, John Evans, Lucky Kele, David Dorfman, David Grenke, Rudy Perez, Pam Pietro, Pat Mayer, K.J. Holmes, Paulette Sears, Julia Ritter, Randy James, Martha Tornay/East Village Dance Project, Jenn Nugent, Wally Wolfgruber, Heather McArdle, everything smaller, Incidents Physical Theater, Merge Dance and many others. Michael and designer Jamie Karczewski have formed the company ASIMPLESOUND, llc. which produces music and resources for dance, film and other mediums. SHAWN HOVE (Video Artist) Shawn Hove, artistic director of shove gently dance , received his MFA in Choreography and Dance/Technology from The Ohio State University in 2005 and his BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts in 1997. He is a multidisciplinary dance artist investigating and working in dance as a choreographer, dancer, collaborator, lighting designer and media artist. He has danced and presented work across the country and is currently a lecture in The Ohio State University's Department of Dance. Along with his work at OSU he currently runs his own company shove gently dance and serves the local dance community volunteering for Columbus Movement Movement (cm2).
